Stones of the Yarra Valley Wedding of Kiera and Dejan

December 28, 2024

Tell me about The Beginning!

We met on tinder – I lived in Parkdale and Kiera in Werribee, so we joke that we both had the max search radius on. Kiera made the ‘first move’ (message) about liking smart boys (I strategically had Melbourne Uni on my tinder profile – worked a charm!). After a few messages we decided to meet up for a drink in the city. We were meant to meet up at a new place called Storyville but I got there first (Kiera was actually late because she got lost on the way from Melbourne Central) and saw the line was huge so we ended up getting drinks at a place called Ferdydurke.

When and where did you get engaged?

On August 7th 2023, we were on holiday in Chamonix, France. We both love travel and hiking so it was the perfect opportunity. I had a few ideas for how to propose and changed my mind on how I’d do it a bunch of times because none of them felt ‘right’ until I got the idea to incorporate Chamonix to our upcoming trip. I had planned to propose on the first morning of our trip (we flew in from Aus the night before), but we woke up to rain. I was quietly fuming (trust my bad luck – it hardly rains there in summer!) but I couldn’t let it show. It rained all day and all the chairlifts to the hikes were closed. The next day we woke up to glorious sunshine and I suddenly- got super nervous (today is the day??). We made our way to the start of the hike, which involved a gondola and chairlift up the mountain. As we got to the top, even though it was summer, it was cold enough the day before for it to snow fairly low down, so we were greeted by a beautiful white blanket of snow. We then made our way across the mountain for 2 hours (talk about making her work for it!) on the most beautiful exposed trail to an alpine lake called ‘Lac Blanc’. I told Kiera I’d climb up to get a vantage shot, meanwhile as I got higher up I scouted the area for suitable rocks where I could rest my phone against to record. I called Kiera up to take a ‘timer’ photo, but instead I hit record, went back to her and pretended to take a photo, then turned to her with a big breathe in. Before I said a word, she started crying, and the rest is history 🙂
