Vines of the Yarra Valley Wedding of Alana and Matt

Tell me about your The Beginning!

We first met at a back yard BBQ in Jan 2016, but didn’t really take notice of each other yet, I don’t think we even spoke to each other at this point… We matched on Tinder a few months later, but still never spoke. May 2016 we were both guests at a birthday party. I wasn’t all that keen on him initially until I saw him walk passed my friend’s bedroom with his shirt open and then my interest was peaked. That night we got talking, Matt kept me company most of the night as I didn’t know anyone at the party and we bonded over espresso martinis, and me supplying Matt with cocktails after the barman cut him off, happily using Matt’s credit card to pay for them of course.

When and where did you get engaged?

Matt didn’t keep any element of asking me to marry him a secret, I knew when he went to the jeweller, I knew when he designed the ring, I knew when he paid the deposit, and how long it was going to take. So I never for a moment thought he could surprise me with a proposal. But he did!!

Our dog Nala got to play a key role in the proposal. Matt tricked me into thinking there was a mark on her belly, so I rushed into the living room to assess if she was ok and he was on one knee (not that I noticed at the time) with Nala, the willing puppet, belly up, getting pats, and as I study her belly for this so called mark he pulls out a ring box and asks me to be his wife… Mind you I didn’t realise at first because I was still busy looking for the mark, whoops! But once I twigged what was happening I was so shocked I almost forgot to say yes.

What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day?

No real theme was chosen but we’ve ended up with a mish mash that is a little bit rustic.

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

Finally getting to be married (thank you COVID), and having our little boy with on makes it such a special event.

Top Tips!

Try not to overthink it, just do what you really want and it’ll all come together. Sometimes less really is more!
