Tell me about The Beginning!
We met through a friend of mine, who was also Rich’s colleague. We met for the first time on a night on a pub crawl. It took a few months, and a few gatherings, before we went out on our first date. Our first date was on the London Eye. It was really sweet that Rich took me there, because he is afraid of heights but he didn’t tell me that. Funny thing was, I was also not so comfortable with heights, but we still had a great time and from that day onwards, we were inseparable. Rich knew I had plans to head home to Australia so we made the most of what we thought was a summer fling.
When and where did you get engaged?
Rich proposed on the phone, on his way to work one night! I was getting ready to leave London to return home to Australia for good, and Rich asked me not to leave. He said if I still wanted to head home to Australia that he was happy to move there to be with me. Rich convinced me that it was a good idea when he said “I would rather take the risk and marry you after knowing you for a short time, than take the risk of never knowing what life would be like without you in it”. That was the official proposal but then he surprised me with a ring a few months later inside the London Aquarium by the shark tank.
We were married after being together for 4 months. A registry office ceremony as I had my heart set on getting married back here in Australia. The plan to have the wedding back then ended up being put on hold as we had two gorgeous kids that were our priority. Last year, we finally said it’s time to do this, it’s now or never.
What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day?
This one was hard… being so close to Christmas, I wanted to go all out and get festive with a Christmas themed wedding! I think the thought of Christmas and Mariah’s carols taking over the night was too much for Rich, so we’ve gone for soft pastel pinks, blues and purples. I’m normally very eccentric in my taste for style and design and it’s been nice going for something softer and not something that I usually do.
What are you most looking forward to on the day?
We’ve been waiting 17 years for this!! We’re going to be looking forward to every part of the day! We’re going to enjoy every moment, good or bad we are going to savour every minute! And of course, we are looking forward to spending the day with you too!
Top Tips!
I’m not sure if our tips for the day would be relevant, as ours is a reaffirmation of vows. However I would still say, just enjoy the day. Enjoy the lead up to the day, the planning process, the good and the bad that comes along with it. It’s such a huge build up to one day and there is usually so much expectation put on the day. Sometimes it’s just about remembering that no matter what happens on the day, it is still going to be amazing and you’re going to make some of the best and most special memories in your life.
