The Vendors that made it happen...
Tell me about The Beginning!
The date was July 15th, 2022, and it was supposed to be the wedding celebration of their mutual friends, Aileen and Julie (who are here with us today). It was planned as their ‘forever party’, but for a number of reasons it was postponed. Not one to let a night go to waste, Sheridan, who seems to be the go-to for organizing work drinks and social events, stepped up and arranged work drinks for all the Air Traffic Controllers. That evening, a group of them found themselves singing karaoke at ‘Party World’ in Melbourne Central. In the middle of the fun, Aileen and Julie burst through the doors with a couple of guys in tow – one being Troy!
Troy and Sheridan were introduced that night and quickly hit it off, chatting endlessly – although Troy misheard Sheridan’s name and all night called her Charlene. Despite the name mix-up, there was clearly a spark, as a month later they were enjoying their first date. It might have happened sooner, but Sheridan came down with Covid, and Troy was away in Wodonga and also had family commitments.
When and where did you get engaged?
Troy proposed on the 30th of July 2023 during a trip to Santa Monica, USA. He had booked dinner at The Lobster restaurant on Santa Monica Pier and had planned to propose prior to dinner so they could celebrate afterward.
However, his plans hit a snag when he suggested a pre-dinner walk along the pier – only to find it packed with thousands of people enjoying a summer Sunday afternoon. Realizing this wasn’t the romantic moment he had envisioned, they took a few selfies, and Troy suggested a walk along the beach – where there were less people around to pop the question. Oops – Sheridan screwed up her nose, and told him she did not want to walk on the beach and get sand all in her sandals before dinner!
So off they went to dinner, and when they sat down, Sheridan noticed that Troy was sweating – unaware that Troy was nervous as ever! They enjoyed a beautiful meal. Troy then went to the bathroom, or so Sheridan thought. He snuck to the bar area at the front of the restaurant which was now empty – and he thought “fantastic – this is where I’ll ask for Sheridan’s hand in marriage”. It was dimly lit, with candles on the tables – just the romantic setting he had been looking for – Perfect. They entered the bar area, Sheridan starts ordering her cocktail, while behind her Troy is panicking as all he can see is a waiter taking away the candles on the tables and packing up! Troy quickly asks him to leave one out on a table to keep some of the romantic setting alive. Troy finally found the perfect time to propose, and with no one around and one candle flickering, got down on one knee and asked Sheridan to marry him!
