Tell me about The Beginning!
We’re one of those rare Tinder success stories. Emily was very skeptical about dating apps—probably one awkward message away from deleting the whole thing—but thankfully, she gave it a go. And just in the nick of time, too, because she matched with Alex right before changing her match radius to somewhere closer to Richmond.
From the start, our chats felt surprisingly real—no cheesy pickup lines or weird GIFs—just genuine conversation. Timing wasn’t on our side though: Emily was working that evening, and Alex was going away the next day. So, obviously, the most logical solution was… a 9am Gold Class session of The Lion King at Crown.
As you can imagine, a morning movie date meant we had the entire cinema to ourselves. Just us, two giant recliners, a Disney classic, and an awkward snack service from overly enthusiastic waitstaff. Afterward, we grabbed coffee—which, in hindsight, probably should’ve come before two hours of animated silence.
Then came the ride home. Emily had determined that Alex wasn’t a total creep and most likely not going to kidnap her—but just to be safe, she asked him to drop her off around the corner from her actual house. You know, classic early dating safety protocols.
As we sat in the car, the song Little Wonders by Rob Thomas started playing. It was one of those unexpectedly perfect moments—quiet, easy, and filled with this calm, mutual sense of “this feels right.” It wasn’t fireworks or grand gestures—it was just comfortable. Natural. And from that day on, things just kept flowing the same way.
When and where did you get engaged?
Alex proposed to Emily on the day they settled on their first home together — a milestone that already felt huge and exciting. Conveniently (or suspiciously!), Emily was interstate for work that day and didn’t fly home until the evening. The plan was that she’d head straight to the house from the airport so they could enjoy their new space for the very first time together.
That all sounded sweet and simple… except Emily had a pretty strong suspicion that something more was going to happen. In fact, she was almost certain — not just because she had accidentally discovered “Will You Marry Me?” balloons hidden in Alex’s bedroom the week before, but also because they had already picked out the ring together. It was something unique and made just for Emily, so she knew he had it — it was just a matter of when.
Sure enough, when Emily opened the front door that night, Alex had carefully lit a pathway of candles leading from the entryway to the living room. There he was, waiting for her— down on one knee, surrounded by soft candlelight and the excitement of their brand new home.
Even though Alex and Emily had talked about marriage, and Alex knew Emily would say yes, he was still noticeably nervous — which made the whole moment even more endearing. And while Emily saw it coming, nothing could have prepared her for the overwhelming happiness she felt. It was intimate, thoughtful, and completely them— the perfect way to start this next chapter of their lives.
What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day?
It may sound odd, but there is no set theme. There will be multicolour flowers decorating the reception, and the selection of bridal flowers will depend on what my mum and her florist friend find at the flower market. I am very flexible and just want to enjoy the day instead of stressing over the finer details. Simple elegance is what I like.
What are you most looking forward to on the day?
Celebrating with close family and friends! It’s going to be small and intimate, so I’m really hoping we’ll be able to enjoy the moment and be reminded of this with beautiful photography.
Top Tips!
Don’t sweat the small stuff! Make it a day you’re going to enjoy, not what someone else wants.
