Mitchelton Wines Wedding of Alisha and Michael

Tell me about your The Beginning!

Michael and I met in London. The day I arrived we both coincidentally got invited by a friend to come to a ‘Taco Tuesday’ night at a local bar. It was the 1 pound tacos that sucked me in. We ended up sitting next to each other and that’s how we first met. We were definitely friends first. I felt sorry for Michael when all he would eat were 3pound meals (sandwich, chips and drink for 3pound) as he couldn’t cook so i invited him over for dinner. Michael also bought me tubs of Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream when I was sad cause my phone got stolen. We became ‘official’ when we spontaneously decided to go on a weekend trip to Spain together. Still one of our favourite places!
Our First official date Michael pretended not to have planned anything and was going to take me to McDonalds (I loathe McDonalds). Ironically, where we ended up going was underneath a McDonalds so he really tricked me – an underground Games World with bowling, mini golf and arcade games. I can be quite competitive so this was perfect. Important to note: I beat him at everything.

When and where did you get engaged?

Ok this is a good one. Michael absolutely killed it. On the thursday night he arrived at my house with flowers and clue no.1. This clue read ‘what do i need for our staycation?” If i got the answer right i got 5 points, otherwise there were 4 tabs underneath with more clues and i got that number of points when i guessed it. On the Saturday morning, i received another similar clue. This led to the Crown Conservatory for a buffet breakfast. Afterwards i got another clue and so on. We ended up driving all over Victoria going to glow in the dark mini golf, Quad biking in Daylesford, had a beautiful dinner and stayed at a winery in Mt Macedon, went out for breakfast then went to our favourite vineyard in Macedon. Amongst the vines I had to select an envelope with all the points i’d earned (it was rigged) and inside was a beautiful note. I had about 30 seconds to read it and then Michael tells me we’re going to play a game and i need to turn around 5 times really quickly. I opened my eyes and he was down on one knee with the most beautiful ring. In context, Michael created the concept of the ‘staycation’ where over our crissy break we would each plan one day of fun activities and we would try to out do each other to win the ‘best staycation’ award. He went first and clearly it was all a sham. Definitely fooled me though!

What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day?

We’ve gone with a simple, yet classy theme. Something elegant and timeless so we won’t look back and think ‘what the hell were we thinking?’. White, Copper and more Neutral colours.

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

Is it wrong if i say the dancefloor? I think for me (Alisha) i’m just looking forward to having a fun time with all my favourite people. Obviously as well as getting to marry my best friend. I’m also excited to see how everything comes together after all this planning! Oh and I’m also excited to wear my dress and get all dolled up for a day!
Michael – I am excited to marry my best friend and spend time with family. I’m also excited to start the next chapter of my life.

Top Tips!

Haha save yourself the trouble and get a wedding planner? Don’t sweat the little things – just get it done and move on. There are so many elements involved that you can spend way too much time on one tiny detail.
Also, create a budget, then add at least 10k. It will cost way more than you think haha
